Top 5 Complications with Technology in Education Today
Technology is the part of most of the schools since the 90’s. Do you
remember CD-ROMs? However, it still has some hiccups. In today’s time where we
have various benefits of technology in the education sector, there are
undoubtedly some challenges experiencing by Educational Technology at the
moment.
In this article, you can have a sight on the technological destruction on
the educational side.
1. Effecting
One’s Abilities
Students never fail to grab a chance of turning to the Internet to answer
their questions. Most of them think that critical thinking has disappeared down
the tube. With the help of technology, students can easily check their
assignments and other written activities on various spelling checkers. It is a
significant concern of technology which effects on our brain-strength and
memory. If we use the Internet in the schools, then students can be taught to
take advantage of Google so as to answer their queries and with that, they can
copy-paste the material. They might not take references from the Google but,
copy-paste the material and submit it to the teachers. Education sector needs
to find out how to use technology in an appropriate manner that it doesn’t
replace knowledge, but strengthens it. So far for the students with
disabilities or language barriers, using technology in the classrooms can be
beneficial and more of a launch pad for better understanding.
2. The crash
Previously it was the dog ate the schoolwork, now it is the computer
crashed, and it was all completed before it got erased. But, this famous excuse
is used because it does happen. When you use computers for creating a homework
or project, it requires numberless hours of work. In that phase, it sometimes
gets erased, doesn’t transfer accurately, sometimes doesn’t save the work, or
for one human error, another one is disappeared. Many individuals who are
technology beginners have been a victim of this situation and curse at a
computer that has stolen precious hours. Some students struggle effortlessly to
accomplish their homework goals, but it seems next to impossible if they might
not have programs or the latest technology in their homes to become acquainted
with it. Moreover, the issue with technology breakdowns is also observed in
online textbooks. Most of the students struggle in accessing textbooks at home
if they don’t have a large enough bandwidth. Other access glitches in online
materials can postpone students and this results in their poor performance
among their peers. It is one of the numerous reasons to make sure that your
school has a constant and trustworthy cloud storage system in place.
3. The
ancient-timer
Sometimes, teachers do not prefer using the technology they have been
provided with. As the teachers have been for years and they are just not ready
to include something new into their ancient workable lesson plans. Some schools
are forcing mentors to introduce technology into their syllabus and neglect the
fact that if the technology is poorly taught, then it cannot be used at an
optimum level. Any teacher or instructor who is given high-tech programs and
expected to teach it in the classroom should be adequately trained first.
However, it is not provided at times. It is recommended that if schools and
other educational institutes who are willing to incorporate the latest
technology should introduce training programs for their teachers too.
4. Social Media
All the social media websites such as Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest,
Instagram, YouTube and the rest have created huge complications in educational
technology today. It is impossible to put a computer in front of the students
in schools/colleges and expect that they would NOT use Facebook or any other
off-putting non-school allied website is none less than a joke. It’s not only
about the young students that are in jeopardy of dropping concentration; even
graduate students can’t keep themselves away from online interruptions in the
classrooms. In order to maintain the students’ concentration and determination
with the learning is one of the demanding task an instructor's faces. With
that, a computer or advanced technology can be more unfavourable in preserving
students’ interest in the classroom. There must be some solutions for this
purpose.
5. The Band-Aid
The concept that technology will rescue education may have some truth in
it, but it may be challenging to treat all our educational problems with
technology. According to a research, there was no difference spotted in
academic achievement amid students who use technology in their classrooms and
students who used alternate techniques. If the students are not capable in
their academics at the outset and technology is used falsely, a whole mess of
snags could arise. What’s wrong with the Ban-Aid thinking is that the
technology should be planned out into academic institutions in an exact way in
order for it to be operative. Majorly, to shelter all of education’s
complications in a Band-Aid may further worsen the issues.
